7 Signs You Have A Bridezilla on your Hands

Are you always hearing about brides who become bridezillas but not sure how to know if one of your clients is? Not all bridezillas are terrorizing Japan, some could be coming to terrorize you.

Here is a list of 7 signs that you may have a bridezilla on your hands.

  1. It’s All About The Wedding

She spends almost every waking moment thinking about the wedding. She is missing work and ditching friends.

She seems to be neglected most of her other responsibilities and relationships. She stays up all night to research each detail (and probably calls you about it at 2 am). Her Pinterest has nothing but wedding idea boards.

Everyone has to clear their schedule for activities and meetings. And whenever a bride insists on having two-hour meetings more than once a week to discuss a minor detail, then you know you are in trouble.

  1. Planner or Personal Assistant?

When you find yourself running around doing mundane errands for your bride, then you might be more of a personal assistant than a planner. You were hired to plan the wedding and make the process easier. You were not hired to plan her daily schedule and be at her beck and call.

Brides who cross into the personal assistant territory usually start sentences with “Can you?” or “Do you mind?” Usually what comes after is something more personal than something you should be doing. It would be something that a bridesmaid could have helped with or she could’ve done herself.

Once you see this sign, then respectfully and graciously remind your bride of the scope of your services.

It is even better if you have a standard contract in place that clearly defines your services. It should also be clear on the things that are not included.

  1. Advice Not Heeded

Despite hiring you to guide the process, your bride doesn’t take much of your advice.

She even counters your ideas with something she read on a blog and has decided that the information is better than all the years of experience you have.

While it is her big day and she and her fiancé should get what they want, remind your bride that you are there to help them work things out in the best way possible.

  1. No Sign or Thought About Other Half

Speaking of her fiancé, where is that guy? He isn’t included in the meetings and she doesn’t speak of him.

It’s like he is not even part of the equation. She has forgotten the reason she is getting married in the first place. The wedding has taken priority over her relationship.

  1. Everything Must Be Perfect

Your bride might have been dreaming about this day since she was a little girl. So it’s understandable that she would want her day to be perfect.

However, when she won’t budge on an impractical idea she has, she could be turning into a bridezilla. She wants to be in control of every little detail so that her vision is achieved. No. Matter. What.

  1. The Mood is Swinging

But look out if even the smallest of things are not going according to her plan! She might go into a fit of rage if that table linen was just not the right color! Bridezillas tend to throw tantrums and have mini-meltdowns regularly.

She can flip out when someone asks her to take some time off from wedding planning to relax. Don’t they know how important it is to spend hours deciding if to go with lilies or gardenias for your bouquet?

  1. The Budget Goes Out The Window

A very clear sign that your bride has entered bridezilla-land is that she is willing to invest her life’s savings (and possibly, that of her fiancé and parents) to have the perfect wedding.

She starts having extreme requests. She insists that she has the rarest, most expensive flower to be flown in for her bouquet. She wants her veil embellished with diamonds.

She wants to spare no expense to get what she wants. She will deal with her wedding bills after her big day.

Oy vey.

Planning a wedding might be your forte but it takes some work. Work that can be very stressful if you have a bridezilla on your hands. If you spot the signs very early on, then you can decide whether you want to work with this client. If you are very patient and firm, you can find ways to deal with a bridezilla.

But it is always helpful to know upfront what you are dealing with. And this list will help you know exactly what to look for!
