EPA Interview with Riyel Manero

What is your title and what do you do for EPA?

I am part of the tech team and I am in charge of managing live streams for zoom and other social media platforms like Facebook and youtube. I am also in charge of managing skipio which is a text messaging platform that sends automated messages to people. Skipio is where my nickname Skippy came from

How did you get involved with computers and technology?

My uncle introduced me to computers when I was 3 or 4 years old. I was so blown away by how they work and how you could play video games on them. Since then, I was hooked. I got curious every day and decided to take up Computer Science so I could learn more.

What’s something you enjoy doing when you aren’t at work?

I spend most of my time in front of my computer inside and outside of work. I just play video games, watch youtube and browse the internet and learn more about technology.

I know you’re not an event planner but what’s one of your favorite things about the community?

I love the connection that the EPA brings. Everyone is so passionate of what they’re doing and their mindset is amazing! Seeing how they do their job also gives me the motivation to do what I love. I also love how Lee brought in guests to share their genius with us and I really learned a lot.

If you could have one superpower what would it be?

I’m a huge fan of superheroes especially Marvel and DC ones. I really love Iron Man but there was this one episode when he had an enemy called Tecnovore who can communicate with technology. It would be cool to have that superpower so you can communicate with technology and have it do your bidding.
